What's happened to gold miners?

Over the last two days both EDV and gold miners generally have seemed surpsiringly weak, given modest gold price moves. The GDX was down 3% yesterday and another 2% today.

At the London Mines & Money conference yesterday, respected mining investor Evy Hambro raised concerns about the enviornmental impact of gold mining. He pointed out that whilst the environmental impact of mining metals needed for the energy transition (e.g. copper, nickel) could be justified, there was no similar justification for gold mining, given the limited industrial uses for gold.

With much pressure on institutional investors to invest in an environmentally friendly manner, they may be inclined to divest gold miner investments.

ISTM that this is a real concern for gold miner investors like me.

Very interesting for sure m100.  And I think longer term it will become an issue and I hope it does, for gold, and many other things, like for gas and electric guzzling cars for example.  The contribution to energy wastage in cars and trucks is massive.  And aviation, and about most of what humans do I would think.  But back to gold; mining for gold really is kind of dumb.
