RE:RE:Quinty Carbon Tax

RE:RE:Quinty Carbon TaxNext tax is on home equity to address the housing affordability issue. Another BS move of course. Like the fed government had nothing to do in creating the bubble.

This Carbon tax is not a success. What is the effect of the carbon tax on households/the individual? The tax $ will be refunded back to the provinces to do whatever. The province may very well subsidize gasoline prices so that it goes full circle.

Joking aside, low income families will be affected harder. They will consume less, this is a burden on their budget. IMO they should have implemented this tax on corporations only to begin with, to push inovation and find ways to reduce CO2 footprint. Then collect the data and see what's the impact on the pupulation.

Let's just talk about bread. Grain in the prairies ... farm equipment uses wind/solar power? Not really. Cost moves higher (carbon tax goes back to the Prairies). Now let's move the grains ... train or truck freight or ship? Cost moves higher. If intermodal / interprovince transportation, the carbon tax is paid back to where the gasoline/diesel supply happen, cost moves up regardless. The grain if used on the Canadian market, gets eventually to be used in production. You move the product again, more carbon tax, more cost. The final product gets on the shelves in let's say NS. A retired person living on OSA notices that the bread costs 10% more suddenly, while their OSA doesn't. The 10% price increase will happen every year for a number of years. Same with lower income families. What's the solution? To increase OSA 10% every year to balance budgets? Honestly I think it's a great idea, but where would the money come from?

I am fortunate not be in this situation. Am I gonna drive less because of this tax? Am I gonna think twice before filling up the tank? Hell no. However, all prices will go up - this is a chain reaction and transportation cost + production cost rising ... that means that grocery products are gonna rise, construction materials ... everything will cost more. All this when we expect a killer inflation anyway.

But what do I know. If you live in a condo and ride a bike you're fine. For now. Not for long though.

The Carbon Tax was never designed to have the money go to the Government (Frderal or Provincial).  It was meant to be an incentive for Provinces to start a Carbon Trade Program but the Cons seeing a way of galvanizing the stupid vote(you) decided to say it was illegal and fight it with your (our) money.  Tell me how that helped Youknownothing?

How it works?  It's basically a sin tax.  People and businesses that use more carbon pay for the people and businesses that don't.  You said you don't drink, bully for you you don't pay the alcohol sin tax.  Drive an ICE vehicle?  You are paying a sin tax on CO2 applied to the cost of your fuel where hybrid drivers pay less and EV drivers pay none.  Thinking of buying an EV to reduce your cost?  That's the incentive working.  Not thinking of buying an EV?  That's ok, other people are and you're going to pay them to do it.

Enbridge gets this.  It is installing renewable energy to offset it's CO2 footprint and cost and will continue to do so whether you like it or not as it is good business.

Go Enbridge!  ;-)

youknowwhat wrote: Quinty can you explain how giving the Federal or Provincial goernments more money in carbon tax will solve anything.

Let me use an example of pouring money to Federal, provincial and local governments for decades to fix the homeless issues we are faced with.

How has that worked out? I suggest the carbon tax has a good chance to disappear into general funds and will do nothing to eliminate any issues at all. History does repeat itself and governments are horrible at spending money efficiently. Just sayin.
