Lockdowns vs open

Neither seem to work. The China virus spreads.

Fiddy wrote as follows:

NPC - Yeah, all the store owners after the third wave will be in an ICU bed with a tube rammed down their throat slowly drowning to death.  Guleph and Waterloo universities just released a study today indicating we could see 3800 new cases each day in Ontario by mid April, far worse than we've every seen.

They also predicted 2.5 million deaths in the US. The problem with University predictions along with politicians predictions thay are all based on the word "maybe". Of course maybe in the eyes of politicians means we are following the science. I call Bull Chit. Politicians and profs at Universities have their jobs because they can not operate in the real world they would have to actually work.

When is Justin going to table a budget? Enough said about work and in Justins defense the other leaders are NO better.

Correct, lockdown measures are half measures. What good are they if vaccination rate is low? That's something Canada should have been a leader at. The budget is a major issue, no liberal wants to talk about it. They'd rather talk about WE scandal believe it or not. COVID pandemic will eventually be over, we will adapt with the help of modern medicine. The problem is that there is no ...more

What good are they if vaccination rate is low? WHO made a statement that the rates are going up BECAUSE of vaccine shortages. My wife and I are questioning why we need the second Pfizzer shot. After the first we are 85% the 2nd jab takes us to 95% to 97% with a 94% protection of us spreading to others which is good and likely an excellant reason to get the second jab. One must remember though ...more

Shoulda, woulda, coulda.  Lockdown measures maybe half measures but if they are used incorrectly they aren't even that.  Unfortunately the provincial governments took the only tool we had at our disposal out too late and put it away too soon.  Look at how well the maritimes are doing.  Just a better implementation of lockdown procedures. Wish we had a better candidate on ...more

Quin, to point to the maritimes as an example for the country ... not relevant. Their largest city has under 700k people and the international air traffic stopped (even in good days not impressive at all given the population) and interprovincial traffic is limited. I am not ashamed to admit that I voted liberal out of CONVICTION for many years. To keep it short the scandals came, I looked the ...more

A year in, we've already had data to show that countries that locked down are no better, and in many ways much much worse, than those who did not lock down. And yet after all this data being freely available, we have people who STILL bark the tune of CBC that we need stronger lockdowns for a third wave. When the economic damage is irreversible for the next decade, just remember who were the ...more

Fiddy I won't get into this again, to spare the board. Just make sure you're informed of the data out there. If you think you read enough then I have nothing else to say.

You're cherry picking the data. Nice try. Look at france, UK, italy, etc. Also taiwan didn't lock down as you claimed, they just had travel bans, which historically work, unlike lockdowns. Don't follow the numbers you feel like. Look around the world, Uruguay, Taiwan, S korea, sweden. In the states look at California and New york. Why do I have to spoon feed you this info?

It's got nothing to do with belief, you either look at all the countries or you cherry pick to suit your theory. The numbers show there is no correlation between lockdowns and deaths per capita. Countries with the strictest lockdowns are in the top 10 in europe and top 20 in the world, which means that there is no relationship between the two. Take a pen and star the number of countries that ...more

An entire subsecstion of the country doing well....Ignore them they are doing well and are irrellevant.  Okay...lets take BC  whch had the tightest lockdowns outside of the maritimes to any other province and compare it to provinces with large urban populations and large amounts of international and interprovincial travel. BC to Alberta population  1.2 x more people in BC BC to ...more
