More ex divvy day sells, AND month end profittaking

Seems to happen quite often on the last trading day of any given month.
Brokers and investors decide to sell and take profits. There is also the old adage ," sell in MAY and go away" but that seemed to me to be for precious metals and risky venture plays , more than for the banks.

Theex-dividend datefor stocks is usually set one business day before therecord date. If you purchase a stock on itsex-dividend dateor after, you will not receive the nextdividendpayment. Instead, the seller gets thedividend. If you purchase before theex-dividend date, you get thedividend.

In my experience the trade settlement date must be on or before the ex-dividend date. My brokerage has taken up to 3 days to settle some trades, and I appear to have missed out on some dividends in the past because of that (not for FFN as I'm holding it longer-term). Probably varies a bit. drool
