NAV December 5

~$14.01. Discount on captital shares: ~$0.65

Increased dividend announcements have given investors confidence to get back into the Canadian banks. Looming on the horizon, however, are mortgage interest renewals and none of us knows all the resulting ramifications, partly because the path of interest rates is unclear.

The increased dividend payments for preferred shareholders begin with the next payment and this will adversely impact the NAV going forward. The markets have had a gargantuan run off the lows so they are no longer as attractive.

The BOC announces their interest rate decision tomorrow. As always, the commentary will determine how Canadian markets react.
