For starters the crew probably lives in Fairbanks.  Not sure where you live but driving 30 minutes work isn't that bad.  The mining and oil industry doesn't care about what day it is, they work straight through.  


Heavy duty machinery runs just fine in the winter in fact better due to the fact the cooling ability.  Hydraulic fluid doesn't really have issues until -25C to start.  

But you can think what you want.  Do you stop baking a cake half way through and then start it again the following week?
