CDN retail sales have rebounded......

out on BNN...CDN retail sales rebounded , in some cases to PRE COVID levels...this has to be good news for HR as it means rents can be paid /sustained going forward and means the economy is indeed opening up.regards, dwdc

If I remember correctly, on the call they estimated sales were back to 70% of pre-COVID sales, which is pretty good considering I know plenty of people not venturing out of their apartments yet.

Yup, but I wonder how much of the sales are online compared to at malls. I still think malls are screwed.

maybe not malls (enclosed areas) like yorkdale (in Toronto), but all of the plazas that i've been to in ontario with big name stores (homesense, winners, etc..) are pretty busy (at least in my area).   I've one large space in particular, which used to house a sears, become the new home to a tesla dealership.... so it's not all negative, retail space is still needed.  ...more

yes but its down and stores like flight centre at malls, or other sectors are not going to recover any time soon malls are slow, very slow... it seems only home renos and home improvements like furniture etc are doing well... Try and build a deck or fence, you cant even get the lumber. Home home home, that is where the money is being spent. Im even cutting my own hair at home now, havent been to a ...more

Each mall I've been to lately is packed. The people have come back, though I would understand if it takes the market a couple quarters to accept the doom thesis didnt pan out
