Dollar valuations…

Can someone please explain how the US dollar is so strong? Biden can't possibly be doing any good for anything... then there's the Canadian dollar holding up surprisingly well compared to The Australian dollar... Australia economy is going strong at the moment. Metal prices looking weak this morning... hmmm

Flight to quality.  World economies are grinding into recessions right now.  There are plenty of negatives you can say about the US economy, but the US dollar is still the international currency of choice with the most liquidity and scared money goes there. Yield curves are inverted so that is all you need to know regarding the direction of world economies.  The question is how hard ...more

I think that it's a bit more complicated than that. There may be a flight to quality but the sale of treasuries by the US government has never been greater (because of the deficit financing).This is driving down the price and driving the rates up.  When rates go up (as investors ask for a higher rate to lend money to the US) it effects everything in the economy and drives up the value of ...more

Why would I want to do that knowing that the yields may go higher driving treasuries lower? I would wait until I thought that the Fed was ready to lower rates.  Chinese are selling treasuries and other countries are wary of buying after seeing what happened to the Russian assets in the US. More central banks are buying gold not treasuries so gold is where I want to be. Because of the lack of ...more
