Well my good friend, Lambe Ojo :-)) : what I can't figure out is why was Kirkland near it's all time high just before the deal? That's only a few short 4 months ago! Why hadn't the market figured out the Swan depletion by that time. No you're wrong! The shorts jumped on KL right after the Detour deal and any pretext was good enough for them.
By the way your post, once upon a time, re: options trading and your avoidance of said practice was good! I waited too long to get out of my position in KL, however I wrote a call on half my position to try and make a little cash on the side about a month ago when stock price was about $49 Cdn for $54 strike, Apr 17 expiration. Now I'm trapped because to buy back that contract would cost me more than what I'll make off of it. This is OK, this just becomes a longer term holding and with the divi which you don't care for, at north of 1.5% helps salve the temporary pain IMHO. Not that great in comparison to some of the non mining stocks but one of the best in our space.
I've been in the stock since about $10 Cdn and had many more shares than I've had recently, so I've made some good money, I plan on buying in again bit by bit if the price goes below $40 Cdn or $30 US where the shorts may try to drive us to trigger stop losses.
