Some hope

Nickel may still be in the picture.
Indonisia elected a new president. He seems to realize that his country has killed nickel prices.
Says he intends to limit the export of raw material and do more refining at home.
China is a huge bedfellow, and will have lots to say about what happens. They have a lot of refining capacity.
BHP may change its mind about putting the refinery on C&M if they see renewed opportunity to make battery grade nickel profitable.
It is a long shot because they've lost mucho dinero on that operation.

There is a big problem with nickel and it is not all Indonesia. First off there is talk that the nickel reserves that everyone is told about is not as big as it is being reported. Secondly there was no new tonnage was given to miner's there caping there output for this year. Finally the estimated number of tonnage needed is underestimated by a large number. It may just be a matter of BHP keeping the refinary open. KRR has very pure high grade nickel to help feed the plant. This helps to lower costs as well as CO2 emmissions. Indonesia is polluting like crazy with coal mines being used to refine the nickel into concentrate. That's a result of their nickel being so dirty. Now they want to keep the nickel at home to refine it further for downstream ...more

There are so many problems over there and without having environmental laws to protect the people of Indonesia it is a environmental disaster waiting to happen. There are some big names in the industry linked to Indonesia and I feel if they were all exposed it could bring some change at least to protect their people. BHP could easily find a solution to keep their operations open if they wanted to. ...more
