Bog: I think there is a significant difference between

Canada and the USA re socialism as shown with healthcare but also with  education
This started in the 1960’s when a very inspiring politician from the Canadian prairies successfully persuaded Canadians of the benefits of Socialized medicine.
The result is that Canada has a very good health care system that covers everyone however not all operations are covered and for some situations such as joint replacement  one can be forced to wait!.
The result for healthcare is that Canada covers everybody and healthcare costs in Canada are 40% less than in the USA.
Socialism is also apparent in education where college and university costs are held down by government - other than in the professional sectors -ie business, law & medicine.
Significant $$ are brought into the system by encouraging foreign students who pay fees up to 10 times higher fees- however this education funding is tied into an ability to immigrate into Canada.

The result is that Canada has much higher taxes than the USA, a much smaller # of millionaires with much use of the overworked phrase = “the middle class”

Last it is very important to appreciate that 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the USA border with the result that Canadians  are like the mouse sleeping beside the elephant = make sure you know when the elephant rolls over!

ROCK

ps tomorrow’s election is unlikely to change things and our current version of Robin Hood won’t be the Prime Minister

When I look to a definition of socialism the definition invariably includes the requirement that  “that the means ...more

You aren't trying to pass that off as an unbiased analysis of Canadian political/economic history, are you?  Besides your semi-literate condition is not much a validation of the Canadian education system.  Did you even graduate? BTW - IMO the Javelin was the ugliest car ever made.  Loved my '69 390" AMX until the oil pump failed at 135MPH and scored the crank.   b ...more

Rarely would I reply to a dumbshite poster like this one, but I feel the need to state some truth here in response to amx. Canada benefits enormously from immigration in broad terms.  I certainly agree that the millionaire class immigration scheme destroyed housing prices in Vancouver and Toronto which then spread to other cities. That was a CONSERVATIVE plan and did not come from the Libs. ...more
