US OTT Providers Grown and Drives Return to Living Room(NLN)

Within the past year, leading US OTT services saw an increase in subscribers, Netflix holding the top spot. According to Parks Associates, based on subscriber count excluding transactional or ad-based services, the research company updated the top list for OTT video services. The top 10 ranking on that list are:

  1. Netflix

  2. AmV

  3. WWE Network

  4. Sling TV

  5. HBO Now

  6. Crunchyroll

  7. Showtime

  8. CBS All Access

Parks Associates, Senior Director of Research, Brett Sappington states that the top five OTT providers has remained fairly consistent, mainly by growing massive subscriber bases while maintaining current subscribers. Services like Showtime and CBS All Access have continued making strides of growth in the space, using recognized brands like Homeland and Ray Donovan towards the push.

OTT continues its dominance, changing the viewing habits and making it easier than ever for consumer to watch the content they want.  Earlier Parks research has shown that as of Q3 2016, nearly 63% of US broadband households subscribe to an OTT video service, up 57% since 2015. Reflected in the research, there was a clear shift viewing of OTT on television sets- smart TVs in particular. Users watch OTT services on TV screens on average 17-20 days per month, rather than on PC, smartphones or tablets. It is an exciting time for OTT services and we at NeuLion are excited to see these numbers continue to increase year-over-year!

So on that list Bamtech provides MLB, HBO now, WWE. What does Neulion have on that list. A 3billion valuation for Neulion wouldn't be a insult they would be pigs in @#@% if they got that at todays value, not 5 years from now possibly. Disney is smart. They didn't pay 1 Billion for a third on a inferior product or service. Bamtech is ahead currently being able to convert their service to ...more

Hi Birdman, well your very short list of Bamtech clients is most probably gonna get even shorter. https://awfulannouncing.com/2016/hbo-bamtech-exit-contract-disney-streaming-service.html  But as Bamtech said themselfes; their target is to have less so they are the real winners here. LOL They only keep some accounts that really just stay there because BAM bought the distribution rights and ...more

Hi Gld,  They still have clients in the top 10. As you may know in when contracts are ending there is negotiations to take place. This could just be a tactic by HBO to get a better deal. They haven't canceled with them yet so really has no bearing. Fewer can be better if the smaller deals don't really add to making money. .  And if HBO does cancel and moves to create in house ...more

Hi Birdman, I thought you were promoting Bamtech over Neulion.  If I read correctly, you are simply not a big fan of Neulion at this point. I don't disagree with all your points becasue yes there are risks and yes actual profits are not high.  However this market is growing so rapidly that Neulion needs to be really unlucky and/or make big mistakes not to double from here.  Now ...more
