RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:old saying !If you are not paying a commision you can reinvest monthly without a penality and now your new shares earn div...the power of compounding can be significant. I prefer to time my own buys rather than a drip. I am a control freak and assume most here are too or they would let their financial advisers do their investing for them which would greatly reduce the need for these types of forums.
I find monthly dividends reduce the cyclical volatility of the stock around ex-div dates.
It is also gives me more windows of opportunity of when to buy or sell and not miss a div and even if I do it is only a month. I can save my monthlies myself. I am a pretty good little saver. ;-)

I don't need the cash so I usually let it build a few months across all holdings until I have enough cash to buy a chunk of something I own, or maybe start a position in a new name. Lumpy quarterly payments would make reinvesting easier. I never asked my broker but does anyone know if the company offers a drip with a small discount on the reinvested shares? Back in the day all the cool kids offered a 5% discount. Now you can use your broker to do it for you, but there's no discount. I assume brokers use closing price or vwap on ex date.
