Great Q3 Results

Smashing numbres, Not surprising
Change to quarterly dividends starting next year - the part i don't like but should be good the company

Does anyone know why they're going from and monthly dividend to now a quarterly? Wonder if some now will go sour on PPL due to that change?

I for one. Will sell off in Dec . If i wanted a quarterly div i would buy more Enbridge for a better yield, Their earnings are out tomorrow and not xdiv yet. GLTA

Funny you mention that because the same thing crossed my mind about Enbridge. I'm contemplating on doing the same maneuver. I loved PPL's monthly dividend. I wouldn't be surprised if the shares sell off now. I'll be keeping an eye on this very closely going forward. I'm very unsure about this.

Given all your recent negative posts, it probably is a good idea for you to move on. In the midstream space, my wife and I own a full position in PPL, TRP, KEY, and ENB and that order is my preference order. As I've mentioned, PPL is not only my top pick for midstream, it's also in my top 3 overall. Basically, I really like it and think it is going to do very well in the next 3-5 years ...more

Good for you. I have a boat load of other holdings which are performing way better than this. I'm not close to retirement so I wanting growth. The monthly dividend in PPL was a bonus. For quarterly payouts....there's way better shares out there. Again...that suite my situation.

For the most part I agree, but for me, losing the monthly compounding of the dividend hurts as I DRIP. From a cash flow perspective I agree it shouldn't matter.

Monthly to Quarterly  :>((    IMO  this gives PPL longer to hang on to any CASH payouts & also gives Day Traders & Big managers  etc a chance to trade/play their games between the X / Rec dates... JMO

PS: this will give them ( traders etc ) an extra 60 days to play around the X dates etc    JMHO

On the other hand, it makes them more of a "blue chip" like ENB, and we can have great confidence that the dividend will always be paid, never reduced, and very likely, raised annually.  As they point out, most of their peers on the TSX60 are quarterly payers.
Comment by SargeX on Nov 04, 2022 1:41pm
That's actually a good point on quarterly being the norm for TSX blue chippers. Of our 16 stocks, only 3 pay a monthly divy and 2 of those our REITs (where monthly is the norm). The other is KEY and I wouldn't be surprised if they switch as well. Ciao   Sarge

Just trying to understand this. At the end of the day, I know the amount pad out is the same. But why so some pay monthly and most aren't (quarterly)? Is it mainly administrative reasons?
Comment by stockmarket1 on Nov 07, 2022 12:13pm
Actually, I'll send off an email to the investor relations dept. A couple of other questions I have too. Might as well get it from the " horses mouth".

I can't say I fully understand the reason behind it, but also there is no strong reason to have it monthyly while most peers offer quarterly. Quarterly vs monthly divy cuts admin work, holds on to the cash for 2 extra months, and may minimize monthly ex-divy share price fluctuations.

Pondered over the weekend and decided that I'm going to keep PPL and also keep buying shares from time to time for the very long term. It's a good company and Scott Burrows is a good CEO imo. Good assets!  It's just that I enjoyed the monthly pay because I had options what to do with it at a much quicker and regular time.  I understand the " dollar payout " is the ...more
