Apple is far from stupid. Apple wants the world to know that if you're going to sue them for patent infringement, you better be in the long game. Assuming 20 months each for scheduling of the initial case and up to three appeals, a company would need to be prepared for 7 years of litigation to assert their patents. Quarterhill has the funds to see this type of litigation through but many small players will not.
