RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:WilanderHey BIGMOE, I know it was you who originally suggested here the idea of Quarterhill buying Baylin and I agree it makes sense because each company has what the other lacks and needs. Baylin has big sales growth potential in an exciting area. Quarterhill has tons of cash, its own decent sales growth potential, and an IP position that would strengthen both resulting operating entities. Plus, of course, Quarterhill (WiLAN) has its big patent cases.
The top people at Quarterhill are aware of the idea. My best guess is that Baylin simply isn't interested. Or if they are it's only at terms that are out of some sort of valuation fantasy land. Baylin is in a financially tight spot and any deal--I would think--would have to reflect that. To some degree.
Note that Quarterhill (WiLAN) used to be in the antenna business and it was a bad experience for them. It was much smaller than Baylin and maybe in other ways not really comparable. I think they held it for about five years before selling it at a big loss in 2006. So it's possible Quarterhill just has a hard time getting their stomachs in tune with the idea of being in the antenna business again. Don't know.
