Long term. trading the market or trading stocks is hard to do. Especially if factor in taxes. Assuming non registered account, and  average share cost of  2.00, After capital gains tax, left with about $2.75. If cost is $1.50, left with just $2.61 after taxes. Where is SP now? What does help in the long term is better certainty that management and BoD are properly aligned with ...more

Shareholders, responding to your crickets comment, there are several factors to consider when holding QTRH.  I was unconcerned about the share price drop after the Q4 results announcement.  While I can appreciate that not pre-announcing may have been bad optics for some, the market reaction was absurd.  You seem like a smart fellow, so you must have done due diligence on QTRH before ...more

Cabbie - have attached your last post below and inserted some comments, in CAPS just so they are visible. Thanks for your comments shareholders. We'll have to agree to disagree on the moral imperative. I understand your point, but read the info on dissemination of info differently. You indicated you were going to write the company. If you did, would you be good enough to share the essence of its response. As far as the 5 points on why I think 2021 could be banner year that was meant for everyone ...more

Great stuff as always Cabbie but I do take exception to the 'financial strength, section.  I hope you're dead wrong on the possibility of an equity raise down the line because I dont have very good memories  about the last time they did an equity raise...... Think I developed PTSD after that.... chi

I think everyone on this Board missed the biggest driver of the stock increase yesterday.  Today is Biden's infrastructure speech.   If you look at what it is being tabled this will be a boom like no other for IRD.  It's revenue could triple and profits could increase 5X from this alone.  Looks like some big money is moving in and positioning for this.

Or maybe a cash + stock deal Chi.  Does that help your anxiety.

I suggest they buy Baylin Technologeis (BYL).
Comment by mrmoribund on Mar 31, 2021 2:38pm
Hey BIGMOE, I know it was you who originally suggested here the idea of Quarterhill buying Baylin and I agree it makes sense because each company has what the other lacks and needs. Baylin has big sales growth potential in an exciting area. Quarterhill has tons of cash, its own decent sales growth potential, and an IP position that would strengthen both resulting operating entities. Plus, of ...more

We are talking about the future? 5G technology. Baylin revenue 130 Million, share count below 50 Million, share price below $2 Quarterhill can increase revenu to $300 Million just buying Baylin.  We have the cash on hand.
Comment by BIGMOE on Mar 31, 2021 2:53pm
Currentlu we have poor management at Quarterhill.  We need Jim Skippen bakc as CEO.  At least he will take some action.
Comment by mrmoribund on Mar 31, 2021 4:14pm
I happen to think current Quarterhill management is very capable and doing a good job. Jim Skippen as CEO? I kind of agree with you about the fit. If they could put it together in a cash & stock deal I think Bay Street would probably fall in love with it. Suddenly you'd have the Baylin 5G growth story excitement but on a solid financial foundation and with super-solid (I suspect) IP ...more

Skippen as CEO. Are you serious? The best thing that could happen is to kick him out of the board. We need a managing team and a board that will put shareholder value as a top priority. He has not done much for shareholders (excepted on his 1st year as CEO) apart collecting his paycheck. I'm pretty sure he still behaving like he is the CEO and has much more weight then Hill on any decision ...more

Bigmore mrmoribud-  baylin is company that reported net loss 0f(16mi) in 2020 and  $ (19M ) AND LOSS PER SHARE OF.(42) CENTS AND (.49) in2019.  On sales of 300 million. In bad  financial shape with debts and very little cash. And you criticize bad management for not buying their problems.
Comment by barneyj44 on Mar 31, 2021 4:53pm
Agree stay away from Baylin, Stephen Tckascy has been pumping Baylin for years on Bnn and it hasn’t done anything for share holders but go down. I would rather have them take a look at Exactearth and there satellite business that tracks shipping.
Comment by mrmoribund on Mar 31, 2021 5:05pm
Agreed that Baylin has an ugly history. Not only losses but the board has been a total revolving door. And it sure looks like there's a real morale issue there. A buyer would have to have a better sense than I'd be able to get as to what's really going on on the inside. But you want to bear in mind that the stock was over $4 within the past two years. There is real excitement out ...more

I mentioned Stephen Tcskasy has been wrong for a number of years on Baylin, he could be just too early to the story , his overall track record throughout the years isn’t too bad.

It depends so much on what the money's to be used for, ChiChi. As well, would they even need to, if the Apple court win is upheld?
