Party Affiliation -Canada vs. U.S. differences

I know we have consumed far too much time on politics today but I would like to make one observation on a major difference between Canadian vs. U.S. politics. In Canada, few people are aligned with a party. Most people vote for a party based on their platform and their performance. If the in power party screws up or doesn't deliver on their promises, we have no issue voting for a different party. Using American nomenclature, that would make the majority of Canadians independents. In the U.S., people's alignment with a party is much stronger. As a result, voting Trump out even though he is clearly inept is a much bigger deal because it means voting for a different party or not voting at all. Switching the party you vote for is a huge deal in the U.S. In Canada, it's no big deal

Interesting view 100mil i see a more disturbing trend happening in Canada.  trumpism is making its way North.  look at Today's conservatives   no moderates to be found   it appears GOP is self distructing   so hopefully slows the bat Sh*t ideology that's creeping up here

Fressca, The difference is the Con party in Canada -- as it gets more right wing -- gets less and less votes from the general public.  The more right they get, the less chance of every getting a majority.  People now call them the Perpetually Complaining party of Canada lol. The Greens, Liberals and NDP occupy 70% of the voting public.  Canada is not a right wing country.  In ...more

100%   if the moderates take back the party then the Reform party will be resurected.  problem with Ndp is the vote splitting which is problematic for majority's.  cheers

In Canada, regardless of the party, we can be swayed if the in power party or leader does a good job. For instance, I'm not a Ford fan but I'm impressed at how he has handled the Covid pandemic. I'm not so impressed with the Ontario Conservative party's position on education and health care so it will be interesting to see in the next election whether the public gives greater ...more
