Unwired Planet went down this route with Apple launching litigations in multiple geographies around the world.  They eventually ran out of money and ultimately PanOptis took over the fight.  Waging a multi year battle across multiple continents with Apple wasn't a fight they could afford to win with the lack of cash flow the business is producing.
