The problem in Canada and the US and Europe is that Governments are interfering with the business ecosystem and trying to pick winners and losers which historically Governments are very bad at doing.

The end result when one monkeys around with an ecosytem (natural or business) is that you just create problems elsewhere.  From an investment perspective, the key is to understand this and invest in companies with solutions which inevitably mean companies which will grow into big markets and reward shareholders.

As I mentioned before, some examples are electricty generating utilties and companies involved in electricity storage and dispatchable power production.  My energy portfolio is in these areas.  IMO investment in oil producers, other than short term price swings, over the long run will underperform these other businesses.
