Another example of the hypocrisy of the ESG left

A 16" pipeline outside of New Orleans leaked 300,000 gallons (about 7,000 barrels) on Dec 27th and the news hit the media yesterday.

Of course CBS news is talking up the ecological disaster as it has been reported that 2,300 fish and 32 birds died.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/diesel-spill-near-new-orleans-kills-2300-fish-32-birds-sickens-alligators/

Just to put things in perspective, lets take a look at how many birds die from windmills in the USA each year.  According to:

https://abcbirds.org/blog21/wind-turbine-mortality/

"A study published in March 2020 found that dogs located 1.6 and 2.7 times as many small bird fatalities as human monitors did at two wind sites in California. This was true even after attempting to correct for searcher detection error, which is a standard practice for such studies.

The Erickson study reported that 62.5 percent of the birds in their data set were small birds. Taking 62.5 percent of the 681,000 annual mortality estimate calculated above and adjusting this with the 1.6- and 2.7-fold multipliers from the dog search study (and adding the other 37.5 percent of birds back in), this would translate into a total of 936,000 and 1.4 million birds based on the numbers from the two sites. Averaging the two, this would suggest that 1.17 million birds are killed by wind turbines in the United States each year."

So, 32 birds die from a pipeline spill which is getting national news coverage.  Meanwhile, the best estimates suggest 3,200 birds die EVERY DAY from wind turbines in the USA.

With self-serving myopic zealots dominating the news, it is not surprising that our society is so messed up.

Yep Sadly, my friend, you will need to get used to this.  Right now, and especially in the US the media are nothing short of political aran of the established parties.  The key players are the cable news networks.  CNN and MSNBC are essentially political propagnada machines for the Democratic party and Fox plays the same role for the Republic Party.  None of this is likely to ...more

Its the hypocracy of the "green" position . I was living in Sask in the 1990's and Saskpower wanted to run a high voltage tower line north which would run electricity generated in the south of the province . Eco whinners of the time were freaking out that these power lines would interfer with bird migration and in the worst case scenerio , bird collision with the high tension line .& ...more

Hang in there buddy, we need your cool headed opinions so that we are given a fair warning to sell when things are about to get rough.. which might be this year. Just like the last couple of years, 2022 should be a year where everyone focuses on their health; money should be secondary. On another note though, I don't think it's fair to call Fox the mouthpiece for the Republican party ...more

Good points NP I will admit that Fox is more balanced than CNN.  Any true Republicans have left CNN or were fired long ago.  That said, their shows are designed to support the right.  On the otherhand MSNBC has never pretended to be anything other than State TV. The said thing in all of this that in my opinion none of these networks report much in the way of actual news, most of ...more

SU seriously has a lot of catching up to do. I'm thisclose to doubling my investment in VET while getting a very small return from SU. If any of you want a better return, why don't you have a look at VET, OBE and SGY?  I already sold OBE after it had a 50% run in two weeks, not because I no longer like it, but because I've learnt to control my greed and set my profit target when I ...more

I bought VET , NVA and CR for pennies after they crashed with all the rest after the 1 st covid scare followed by the Saudi/ Russian oil feud and oil went to zero. I sold Vermilion last week. It's gone parabolic just like CNQ . Never a good idea chasing parabolics.... in time you will learn that ...... the risk has gone up substantially in those companies you mentioned. We're in a bull ...more

I never chase a stock because it's gone parabolic. I actually run away from it. I look more into the company's fundamentals and see if it's still undervalued. I also look into why it's gone parabolic. Was it hype that drove up the stock price or was it funds buying. I would sell when I feel that the share price is getting closer to its fair valuation.  I have not sold VET ...more

I'm not suggesting you buy the companies I owned........my point is, look for value in companies/ sectors that are depressed but future fundamentals are strong.......where nobody's interested. Not easy to find these days btw. Someone on here mentioned the possibility of a rough road ahead. I'm guessing he's older like some of us and been through a few down turns in his life. I tend ...more

I am not buying the companies you mentioned, not after you have sold them, Sir. :-). I just want to compare and see where they are in terms of valuation and how they trade compared to their peers.  I have never been through a recession except for the financial crisis in 2008. I dodged that bullet because I was already out of equities and started venturing into real estate. The dynamics have ...more

The fed is stuck between a rock and a hard spot to say the least. Doesn't look like they have much choice but to raise interest rates and with all the leverage in the system, that won't be good for the stock market........they've waited much to long imo. The basics such as food, as you mentioned, are beginning to spiral out of control therefore they have no choice. Personally, as much ...more

thanks for you thought and contribution. It does feel like(to me anyway) politicians have agenda to wreck this economy so they can build back better, without telling us what their 'better' mean.  When i see hospitals laying off unvaxxed staff, gov'ts banning unvaxxed truckers, these workers were heros for the last 2 years but today they are zeros. It seem cranking the fiat ...more

Nothing exposes the leftists' hypocrisy like Michael Moore's Planet of the Humans[/url]. It was really eye opening when all the so-called "green" champions and leaders were caught telling one lie after another.
