you are rightit was a merger that created the Telus we have today. as for the stock price/dismal results only one in ten mergers are successful in the first five years. We also have a few other issues about this stock.
as for U.S. ownership yes BC tel was majority owned by anglo american telephone which in turn was owned by G.T.E. with the merger total foriegn contorl dropped to 27.9%.
for fast busy that you are complaining about this is news to me. all the calls i make during the day and evening i can't remember the last 180ips tone got( except when i forgot to dial all ten digits).
as for moving away form core bussiness to explore a more growth oriented model i have some concerns. as for being right or wrong only time will tell. i know that competition is here to stay and as long as the crtc regulates every move the incmbent telcos make we will be at a disadvantage.
Union bashing is the answer they are not the cause of the malaise. Remember the union was there through all the good times, 41 quarters of growth. many records, increased dividends and such. These are the people that implement, control and repair they deserve their reconignation to. In the early 90s and late eighties pay raise were few and far between while the cost of living went up it is about that management faced that fact and settled they outstanding contract issues. This would remove one more uncertainity about this company.
As for why i closed out my short position. the risk to reward ratio had become to steep. Today over 800 trades and 1.09 million shares.
