I see two events that will save us:
1. Everyone self quarantines for one month. The thinking is that if there is no transmission of the virus, any virus that is coughed or sneezed out will fall to the ground and die off within about 9 days or it will die when you toss out the tissue you just used. The virus needs us to survive. An infected individual who survives (and that is the vast majority of people) will develop immunity. Also, if we can do this, the virus will die and won't have many chances to mutate. Once we have enough herd immunity, we will be safer.
2. A vaccine will be developed in 2 years.
3. Better treatments will be available: Zinc with Chloroquine drugs seems promising.
IMO, the best method is for everyone to self-quarantine for 30 days. Forget 14 days- not long enough. Short term financial pain for long-term gain.
