Strange, no sub required for me! FLORENCE — Florence Copper is a step closer to full-scale commercial production with state environmental regulators issuing a draft permit for public comment and scheduling a virtual public hearing for Sept. 9. The company has been mining copper on a small scale for more than a year now in a test phase. The company said in a statement that this testing ...more

Thanks, perhaps my ad blocker?  Reading between the lines I sense the town is mainly just keeping options open to see what they can get out of the deal. With global warming an issue IMO the company should stress the reduction in emissions, perhaps calculate the average emission from a current mine producing approx. the same amt. of Cu /yr. It is hard to conceive mining without an ...more

I wish we Arizonans were that altruistic.  It's really about "Will it make my water taste bad?" "Will it be ugly?" "Can my brother in law get a job there so he can move out of my spare room?"

Cynicism is probably a poor approach to the community, nor does it satisfy their legitimate concerns.  If I understand the situation correctly it appears that real time monitoring will disclose any adverse impacts relativity early.  What might help is for the community to be ensured in the integrity of the well monitoring, and to make it a crime as well as civil violation to falsify test ...more

"I wish we Arizonans were that altruistic"   I was thinking more about giving the permit board and local politicians an argument in favor of the project.   If here are environmental objections, provide a positive environmental benefit or if economic, show economic benefit. I wish copper miners and investors were that altruistic and mined copper where it caused the least ...more

It seems to me looking at this from what I've heard and read,  that there is a damn good case for both in this project.   Bogfit,  what is stopping you from doing so? On your other point,  while I can't speak for all  copper miners and how and what they do,  I see ample evidence of Florence Copper operating under TKO is as responsible and enviro conscious as ...more

Ok.  I live here.  The quality of the water is what is in view.  No other benefit will matter if that is not assured.  The state and EPA monitor the test results.  It is already a crime to falsify such results.  The test facility has already proven the viability of the process.

Hey you self-proclaimed experts can all go screw yourselves.  I can look 5 miles out my back door and see a superfund site from a closed copper mine that has a toxic plume migrating into our groundwater, and I’ve talked to men who were e in the field when water tests were diluted and falsified And I can look 5 miles away in another direction and see another copper mine that is being built ...more
