Comment by pandsca on Mar 17, 2021 3:25pm
Depends on the investor account type you in. I personally invest in my TFSA while letting my RRSP's do their own thing until I retire, so always tax free in my TFSA until I withdraw more than the annual maximum from my account.
Comment by UNKLAL on Mar 18, 2021 9:08am
You can withdraw all the funds in your TFSA's in a given year, you just can't contribute into them until the following year unless you haven't contributed the annual allowable contribution. UNKLAL

No. The annual RoC received is used to reduce the ACB of the stock - resulting in a larger Capital Gain if/when the REIT units are sold. However, if ACB should ever hit zero due to the annual RoC then any additional RoC must be declared as Capital Gain in the year received. ACB cannot be set below zero.

LOL  man you really should learn about reits and look up the meaning ROC and things before investing ;; 100% ROC  mean no tax is the good news;; the bad news when u sell u pay capitol gain however because capitol gain is only based on 50% of the earnings its much cheaper than earned income ;;Its the only thing in Canada the scum bag liberals have so far not ruined (yet)
Comment by CanSiamCyp on Mar 22, 2021 12:59pm
Hey Truth! Don't point out "...only thing in Canada .... not ruined (yet)" too often, okay! They are formulating a budget (finally) and plan to present soon. Don't want any nasty surprises but that is mostly what we receive from this gang! With Jugmeat "having their back", I would anticipate sooner or later they will introduce estate/inheritance taxes and gift taxes at ...more

You are either too young or have a short memory, The Mulroney conservative government raised the capital gains inclusion rate. It was the Liberals who reduced it back to 50%. I don't trust any of them.

yah thats why 90% of my money is in a Private reit  just put in 3million more in skyline I cant handle the markets this late in life
Comment by CanSiamCyp on Apr 09, 2021 12:07pm
Hi Truth: Wow! 90% is a really high proportion of one's eggs to put in one basket. I understand your aversion to market volatility. However, when I entered into investing with Skyline, I set a maximum of 20% (spread across the 3 REITs and the Clean Energy Fund). I am pleased (actually more than pleased) with their results to date, but I cannot bring myself to go higher than 20% cuz of the ...more

I understand I feel super secure with skyline ;; railways? well thats a different story for sure as you know skyline is not a stock ;; heck the commercial  reit in my portfolio went up $412K in 2020 and I expected it to stay flat because of covid ;;
Comment by CanSiamCyp on Apr 15, 2021 12:45pm
New name? I agree that the Commercial revaluation was fantastic. I was not surprised cuz what they are calling Commercial is referred to as Industrial in the public REIT sector and that has been the hottest performing sector during the pandemic (cuz of warehouses required by online marketing systems including Amazon). Similarly, Skyline's Retail REIT is misleadingly named cuz the assets are ...more
