RE:RE:you guys are super smart and are invested in a great companyTo functionally process biumen into sales product you need an upgrader which turns the heavy crude into a medium crude by adding hydrogen and removing impurities and then you need a refinery at the back end. The objective of the refinery is produce high value products like diesel, jet fuel, and gasoline which sell for a positive differential to the feed stock. The refinery typically try to avoid condensate as it would sell at a discount to the other products.
Refinery economics are exceedingly complex. You have to gamble on the differentials over 25 years or more. Also where would you sell the products as the market is more or less in balance.
Then there is the cost. The NW Upgrader cost $9.7 Billion for 75,000 bbl pd. If it made sense to convert all 2.0 Million bblpd to gasolin it woul cost $258 Billion. Not happening anytime soon.
