RE:RE:RE:? ? ? Winning? They impose a heavy duty and we get some of it back. Winning is in the eye of the beholder I guess. We keep coming back to the same place....over and over. Also, if we impose our internal timber tax (stumpage), at the right level, then yes, we are good and this ongoing issue just might go away. However, for the last 10+ years the stumpage has been way below what all industry folks know to be fair. It is recognized that to keep some outfits viable, low stumpage is needed to offset the other very high structural costs, especially on the coast. In essence, us, the public, are allowing our timber to be harvested to the advantage of the big outfits and reducing government revenue.
