What is true is the cmpnay has indicated over and over again that they are in talks with HBO about the contract. That seems to indicate that HBO has some kind of say in what happens with the reboot. I have seen enough licensing deal to know that this is likely the case and the fact that the filming of the show was cancelled last summer and the entire staff (writers, actors, film crew) were laid off dead stop means that freedom to shop around was not as you state.
As to financials, go read the actual numbers...it will help you uinderstand the difference between company statements and what is black and white on paper.
