Kitty, I can't imagine you would ask why pay extra dividends that you don't have to. If they convert they dilute the common shares by about 25%. The dilution would be less if the share price was above $2 when they did the conversion. Although it doesn't look like it they are suppost to be working for the share holder. Maybe because they have done so little for the owners, it was easy for you to forget that fact.
