Process Update?

The below from the yesterday update sounds like they are having Process Problems

With the newly engineered equipment and flow processes being in place and operating at the Aldersyde Facility, as a proactive measure Cielo disassembled the new equipment to confirm that there were no internal operational issues needing to be addressed before scaling up production. Management has determined that the equipment is operating as engineered. The new equipment is currently being reassembled after which the facility will be placed back on production. Updates regarding continuous-flow production volumes will be forthcoming.

How do you get "problems" from that?? They just want to make sure all is well before they really ramp up.Sheesh!
Comment by Dayot538 on Sep 29, 2020 6:34pm
It's an extremely unusual move for commissioning a plant, and quite vague. You don't disassemble things to make sure they're working if there are no other signs of failure. I really hope it's nothing, but "working as engineered" is not the same statement as "working as desired."

Yes it could seem unusual, however cmc can't pick up the phone and call a brother or sister refinery for advice and or solutions . They don't exist. This is the first of its kind. Probably just being extra cautious. It's extremely important that they prove to investors they can hit the 1000L/hr.

They are also installing a vacuum pump to prevent back flow into the feedstock, that would create moisture and gum it up. Plant should be back up running by Friday

Rp Did you talk to Don for info?

@eunice  on another chat ceo.ca Lionel Robbins explained what the pause was for

i disagree. I think this is part of the "measuring twice" practice. better to see early in the process than MAJOR  unscheduled shutdown later on.

can you post here or tell us where you saw it thanks

It's on another cmc chat room. CEO.ca Lionel on the board for Cielo goes on there to answer questions periodically

Sorry that messed up.  @Quagmire Not sure how long it takes to re assemble the equipment   @Zeke won't take long. I do that work. Internal inspection of some vessels/drums. Check if welds holding, etc. any leaky valves. Pretty routine. small plant. won't take long unless they do find issues, which I doubt

Semantics. A confidence builder for me. Better to do an early inspection as part of the ramp-up and commissioning process...25%...50%...75%...than wait for a problem to develop at full capacity. 'Do it right the first time'...'Measure twice, cut once'...etc., etc., This can be a phenomenal tech. to deal wth the waste stream of our 'disposable' society. Let them ...more
Comment by Dayot538 on Sep 30, 2020 8:46pm
This is hardly "semantics." It's extremely disruptive and expensive and I don't buy that it was proactive for inspection of an otherwise well-functioning system.  As you say, measure twice cut once - but now they've cut twice. They're not the first plant to process and refine hydrocarbons by any stretch of imagination, and if a weeklong outage was in the schedule ...more

Good point, just like the JV's "wishing" to move forward is different from actually moving forward. That release made it seem like the signing would be sooner than later. Turns out they still need the 90 days of continuous production before activating. Seems like the wording is so it can be read positively, but not definitively.
