Have you not read the news? The LME probably let him get away with covering by delivering non-compliant nickel (I forget what kind of nickel is normally accepted for delivery and what he is required to deliver). Basically they manipulated it so that he doesn't suffer too badly, and cheated everyone else that traded that day they shut down.
