Ontario invests in green steel technology in Hamilton

Ontario invests in green steel technology in Hamilton

Our government is taking the initiative to boost the skilled workforce in Hamilton’s steelmaking industry, by joining forces with ArcelorMittal Dofasco on an investment that will transform Ontario into a world-leading producer of green steel.

The $1.8 billion-project will see ArcelorMittal’s Hamilton plant become the first in its global operations to replace coal-fed coke ovens and blast furnaces with new, low-emission technology. This will help meet the global demand for low-carbon auto production and support Hamilton’s skilled workforce.

This is great news for the residents of Hamilton and for people across the province as we take another step toward making Ontario a global innovation hub for building the vehicles of the future.
