Late to the game

Late to the gameand Critical Elements might have missed the opportunity.

Stellantis-LGES: Will invest $15 billion CAD to build an electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor, Ontario.

Volkswagen: With a $20 billion CAD investment to build a battery gigafactory in Ontario, the Canadian government praised it as the biggest single investment in the country’s EV supply chain.

Ford / Magna: Magna International is investing $470 million to build a 500,000-square-foot factory in Ontario to help Ford keep up with demand for its F-150 Lightning, the electric version of the best-selling vehicle in North America.

GM: Opened its CAMI plant after investing $2 billion to retool it to be Canada’s first all-electric vehicle manufacturing facility.

Mercedes: In a deal brokered by the Canadian and German governments, Mercedes has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a priority annual supply of up to 10,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide starting in 2026.

Next Star: Plans to become one of the biggest EV battery plants in the world with their factory in Windsor, Ontario, and has begun a huge hiring spree and will be responsible for producing batteries for 500,000 vehicles per year.
These are only among the large billion-dollar investments made in the past year. New manufacturing facilities are planned in Canada to take advantage of the lithium supply from the James Bay region and secure it from companies like Arbor Metals for years to come.
