I agree things can take off rapidly once the testing stage is deemed succesful. I my mind it is not the equipment itself being tested as that equipment works and is running already in S. Korea. I view it as a test of the concept. Will people use these chargers in sufficient numbers to make them profitable for the owners of the parking lots etc. Are these chargers ( which I think run at max. 25kw) be an attractive alternative to the 50, 150, and 350 kw chargers? If the current buyers of these systems deem the concept test as successful they will bring it to their other properties and their peers will see it happening and do the same.
I think there are enough companies out there already to get a rough estimate for the numbers and profitability. Currently, there are six main networks providing EV charging solutions in BC. I expect to see seven with DM's name on that list after testing is complete. It's pretty clear in their news release what the testing is for:
"The Company plans to evaluate the charging efficiency, enforcing safety practices, and communication between the EV charging systems, the proprietary app, and the payment system. DM EVS considers sufficient review, research and development for product stability and customer satisfaction is the key to success." EV charging is stil in its infancy and will only grow with more and more electric vehicles on the road and given all the commercial and home real estate out there to provide EV services for, there is clearly a lot of room to grow, especially if DM is providing a better product.
