EV Road Side assistants now open

$20 a month, Van, BC
Comment by MarketMaestro on May 17, 2023 2:50pm
It is great to see things on the EV side moving, the $20 a month price point is very good.
Comment by Bentley2000 on May 17, 2023 2:57pm
The .065 SP isn't very good!!!!
Comment by Citron on May 17, 2023 3:04pm
I do not understand why anyone would pay $20/mo for a limited & local charging service when I can get a CAA for $90 a year for a multitude of services across Canada.  Help me understand how that business model works.
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 3:36pm
Does CAA even include EV charging in their subscriptions? I looked up CAA EV charging and roadside assistance and only saw the service offered in Quebec.  If I lived in BC and owned an EV i would want the cheaper subscription, and the service that actually specializes in the field.
Comment by AmericanAkita on May 17, 2023 3:39pm
So you want CAA then? Not DMEV @$20 a month?
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 3:41pm
If that's the level of your reading comprehension then that explains a lot.
Comment by AmericanAkita on May 17, 2023 3:42pm
CAA will tow to the nearest charge station.
Comment by AmericanAkita on May 17, 2023 3:46pm
You did say the cheapest solution.
Comment by frewil11 on May 17, 2023 3:45pm
I would rather do the 90 dollars for a year with BCAA than 20 dollars per month with DM .    Once you're a Member, BCAA Roadside Assistance can help in two ways if you run into car trouble: If your EV needs a charge, we'll tow you to a charging station or back to your home. If you need engine or mechanical repair, we'll tow you to an auto service centre for repair.
Comment by AmericanAkita on May 17, 2023 3:54pm
Did say IF lived in BC and IF owed a EV. So I guess lives in mother's basement and rides a bike to get around.
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 3:59pm
Real original there, I live in a different province and drive an ICE vehicle currently (not for very much longer).  Sorry to hear about your living situation that you are trying to project onto me.
Comment by AmericanAkita on May 17, 2023 4:15pm
I'm guessing that your capital ICE vehicle is your good vehicle and your upgrading to your bicycle or electric bike I'm assuming.
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 5:08pm
Actually my ICE vehicle is far from good and is a liability with numbered days due to an issue that arose thanks to poor engine design (class action type of issue). Funny enough it is an issue that could never occur in an EV vehicle.
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 3:55pm
Link? I only saw EV services offered for CAA in Quebec, nothing for BC
Comment by frewil11 on May 17, 2023 3:59pm
They will just tow you to wherever you want to go , no matter what the problem is , thats what BCAA is all about.
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 4:03pm
Only within a very limited distance if you are on basic plan (no more than 10km). The plus plan is limited at around 45km I believe and costs quite a bit more than the basic plan. Varies by province though.
Comment by Bentley2000 on May 17, 2023 4:24pm
BCAA Basic PKG towing distance 5KM            GOLD CARD towing distance 160km             Premier Card 2 tows at 160KM and 2 at 320KM
Comment by Forge24 on May 17, 2023 5:08pm
Prices for those packages??
Comment by Bentley2000 on May 17, 2023 5:29pm
Call BCAA as it may depend on how long you have been with BCAA or your a new client....not sure.
Comment by Citron on May 17, 2023 8:21pm
My wife called CAA as she has an EV.  They provide free towing to the nearest charging station within (I believe) 75KM. If she needs a further drive there is a cost.  And that's across Canada.  Free KM's vary depending on the plan you sign up for.  That is across Canada.  I honestly do not see how DMEV's business model works.  Please fill me in!
Comment by dmshediac on May 17, 2023 9:11pm
wouldn't your wife prefer a service vehicle just show up and charge her battery instead of towing her vehicle some distance to be charged . time wasted in towing , etc.
Comment by Citron on May 18, 2023 6:37am
You're assuming DMEV can respond immediately plus she would be within their service area on top of that. Safe bet to say DMEV is in business to be busy enough to generate a profit.  They have what, 2 vehicles, correct?  What happens if both vehicles are tied up for hours or at an event for days?  Also, what happens if she's 10km outside of their area?  What happens if ...more
Comment by dmshediac on May 18, 2023 8:00am
we're talking about "charging" a battery not fender benders, what if your wife was impaired , why would she call DM ?  the twisting of statements is happening, lol
Comment by Citron on May 18, 2023 8:15am
Not twisting and I do not like your driving drunk analogy one bit - that is a jekrofff thing to put in writing.  Anyways,  CAA offers a one size fits all solution to all possible car issues that might across Canada for less  money than what DMEV offers for only 1 issue that might arise within a relatively small area in Canada.
Comment by dmshediac on May 18, 2023 8:31am
why be "towed" to get your battery charged when as service vehicle can charge it on the spot? that is what i originally pointed out, no one mentioned fender benders. who cares if you don't like impaired statement, fact is , DM has nothing to do with fender benders or impaired drivers, or flat tires or anything you would like to add on.simply talking about charging a battery,
Comment by Forge24 on May 18, 2023 8:36am
You heard it here everyone, CAA has the market cornered, all of the interest in the DM EVS trial program was just an illusion! LOL unreal, you even said it yourself in one of your recent posts, DM EVS can service large events, multiple vehicles with one mobile charging van, etc. not to mention on top of regular mobile charging not to mention their stationary chargers.  I know I'd ...more
Comment by GHZTECHY on May 18, 2023 8:36am
Bottom line still comes back to how much does it cost to run the DMEV van per month. (full business model). This must include every cost to operate one vehicle, salaries of all DMEV employees including driver, management and directors (revenues from all three verticles still need to be distributed to the brass) employee benefits, insurance, leasing of the vehicle, the capital cost of the charger ...more
Comment by astutein on May 18, 2023 6:55pm
Ghtechy  05/18/  8.36 is excellent read re laesing of vehicle or buying, capital cost of charger salaries of driver for 24 hours.  ( I believe EV charging was advertised  for 24 hour service, I stand to be corrected if wrong) At $20 per month how much revenue needed to break even and not run at loss for 3 vehicles???? We should know in next year cash flow for EV unit.
