RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Is arrangment with Glencore a good one? Thanks for your excellent posts today Hedge. They are a breath of fresh air (and Steam) for this board. I didn't have time to listen to the podcast yet but will do so later tonight and will now listen to it with the correct context. Your insights are great and help renew confidence in staying long on FCC.
In terms of cobalt being crucial to batteries, yes indeed it is. All it would take is a couple of incidents such as fires like you mentioned or news articles about batteries not having acceptable ranges, or issues in the winter or low longevity in the the 2nd most expensive investment people usually make (i.e. automobiles), to run a car company down, along with their large EV investments. It's best to use cobalt to reduce risk and that is probably why Tesla recently signed supply contracts with Glencore, because they know how vital cobalt is. High performance and high range vehicles that are not tiny lightweight go carts need high capacity, safe batteries. I also wouldn't trust a non-cobalt battery in winter to provide enough safe heat and still have good range. Heat requires lot of high capacity, high drain energy in the winter.
