Fed Money

The Feds should be covering the cost of the plant, at least the first stage, to help grow their investments in Canadian battery plants. I could see a POSCO stepping into the picture (e.g. owning a piece of E3) to encourage movement in this direction by the Feds. It'd be a huge win for Canadian EV manufacturing capabilities, and POSCO already has its foot in the door.

Would they have to pay money back or just suck on tax payers tit, Bombardier has gotten more than 4 billion over the years, nothing paid back. And that is only 1 example. Not a big fan of corporate welfare.

I'm hoping for a grant. I'm willing to make an exception ;-)

The only way the Fed's are supporting this to any major extent is if it is buying votes or a Conservative government is in place and can afford it. Given our debt is in the crapper due to Justin going on a spending spree over the past 9 years, I suspect the belt is going to have to tighten over the next 20 years. If we don't get a hold of the debt, our kids are going to be in bad shape ...more

Bombardier is in Quebec.  Liberals love buying those votes.

Small correction - politicians love buying those votes. The Mulroney and Harper Conservatives are as guilty as the liberals. But yes, it's Quebec, the rules are different.

I'm with you on this one barcow A one timer non refundable ok but don't let them into the business. Government and business have a poor track record. Gl

Look at TransMountain pipeline.....talk about a fiasco. Never say no to free money with no strings, but this government has botched pretty much everything it has touched in the past 9 years. Someone is long over due for his walk in the snow.  E3 will need better management to get this out of the ground smartly.
Comment by Arvid77 on Jun 17, 2024 11:00am
I hate to be the one supporting the government on these things, but TransMountain was way behind schedule and over budget long before the Libs bought it out. It would not have been built at all without them.
Comment by Yajne on Jun 17, 2024 11:39am
And so Arvid77, you conveniently forgot to mention WHY it was behind schedule and over budget. That happened because the Libs were pandoring to all groups opposed to building it, the natives and every environmental nut case that protested and threw up barricades. Yes, it was the Libs who were essentially created the mess and then tried to solve the problem by throwing huge money at it ...more

"According to a 2021 White House Report, the Chinese government funneled $100 billion in subsidies, rebates, and tax exemptions to Chinese companies and Chinese consumers between 2009 and 2019 to dominate the global lithium refining industry, before global demand for lithium soared." This, IMO, is why the Feds need to get moving on this. The payback and political statement it ...more

No argument from me there, Yajne. It takes a government to slog through the government red tape. Private industry never had a chance with TransMountain in this day and age. Just saying they did manage to get it done.

You nailed it!  Fed's attacked the project and also made alternative investments (Gateway) impossible to execute. They even went as far as making a provincial park in the way of another project.  I suspect there is go forward risk to E3 but given the Liberals are overdue to be removed, it will likely be a more favorable environment to do business. I suspect there will be little ...more
