airasia advocates for easing of travel restrictions

Google search result: "AirAsia X remains committed to resume normal operations as soon as international borders in its core markets, including Australia, reopen in order to see our guests start flying again. Guests are urged to book as soon as possible for this special return service, as seats are limited and subject to availability. Nov 24, 2021."

Google search result: "A cautious AirAsia X restart on the Kuala Lumpur - Sydney sector. Aside from the odd ad hoc charter and repatriation flight, no regular AirAsia flights have serviced Sydney since 2020. February marks a tentative return to Australia for the airline with just one return service a week initially. Jan 31, 2022."

Soon after the PWS acquisition, Flyht got a contract extension. Don't know where the contract stands now or even what product will be delivered. Resuming flying is a re-start.

SEPANG, 7 FEB 2022 -  Travellers planning to fly to Sarawak can now look forward to more choices of flight timing as AirAsia is increasing its flight frequencies to Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri with a total of 319 flights weekly from 14 Feb onwards.

Manila, 31 January 2022 – Data from AirAsia Philippines shows that the uptick in COVID-19 cases in January has not affected domestic travel as the airline recouped 42% of its pre-COVID flight frequency this month. The World's best low-cost airline showed a huge climb in capacity for the month of January 2022 versus 2021 after recording an increase of 182%.  Seats sold for said month ...more

It has been a while since Flyht acquired PWS and got their order book for the PWS product line.  If memory serves, there are FlightLink boxes to deliver along with Tamdar sensors. The order size was effectively doubled about a month after the acquisition. There could well be an opportunity to include Flyht's recently acquired WVSS-II sensors, which would be new.  The end ...more

Yeah, Nice try CF Panasonic paid FLY to get rid of their assets (PWS). How's that doing now? :)

IMO, when commercial flying resumes full strength (and it will eventually), revenue from weather data sales will be simpler, easier, cleaner, high margin, complementary and plentiful, with much less competition. Weather services love it, are hungry for it. Say goodbye to radiosondes (weather balloons) anywhere there are flight paths. Flyht owns both Tamdar and WVSS-II, great combo. The population ...more

Agreed CF, weather deal was a win......Thx for the info on Barron's and WSJ. Don't think the sp rising 100%, 150%, is going to make any difference with Ray.....I expect to read the same old same old from him.

CF105: Panasonic's FlightLink product, technology, customers and sales backlog which was part of the PWS acquisition is like a bonus.  PWS loss money with it. Perhaps FLY will but no PWS backlog numbers have been provided. :)

For us, pws's product line and services are a bolt on...at pws those same products/services were required to support an organization, offices, exec's etc etc. Would expect that WEE is cash flow positive from the pws bolt on, and working of course to expand that part of our business.

Been doing some research in this area, It's too bad that the WMO and AMDAR  are looking for ways to have the airlines pay for their own weather data. According to the WMO website, they have just been working to be the enablers of technology. This makes sense to fund the R&D to get the capability set up to make it convenient for the airlines to collect and then benifit directly from ...more

FLY weather info division doing fine...in fact, FLY, as per nr's, is adding to it's capabalities. It was great deal with Panasonic, fits well, uses and enlarges our relationships with aircarriers, substantial cost savings moving to FLY. Love to see another acquisition like that...

The market disagrees

Stock price suggests to me Ray, that the market neither agrees nor disagrees....more a, wait and see, attitude. Which is just what you and I get to do....wait and see, though I'm waiting with higher expectations than you it seems.....
Comment by RayDonovan78 on Feb 22, 2022 4:22pm
Yes, Wait and see.....Shall we give it another 20 years ???
Comment by tannin on Feb 22, 2022 9:46pm
good question Ray. Answer is, I'll decide how long I wait, and you make your own decision. For my part, would imagine the next 30 months will tell the story.

Last MD&A Letter to Shareholders   We are getting great support from the weather community for rescuing this technology and together with our TAMDAR product, now have humidity sensor equipment for any type of aircraft. Over the next short while, we will be working with major agencies around the world to map out how these technologies will be deployed.   Revenues associated ...more

It's those procurement changes that are concerning. I suspect that the TAMDAR and other sensors added to the aircraft require constant calibration and monitoring. Since they do not directly affect the operation of the aircraft, I suspect that airlines could get lazy with their maintenance, thus affecting the data accuracy. Most other means of collecting weather data with non-tamdar aircraft ...more

Coffeeme: Don't get me wrong, I am not shooting at FLY here, just pointing out how fickle the aviation industry is in trying to make money off of it! TAMDAR has so many moving parts, Government procurement, airline profitability, and operating complex equipment that is not operated by you, but the airline as a side bar..... 100%. Not a sure thing as some try to suggest here. :)
