Minister of Mines: Official Summary of yesterday Conference"
The Vice Minister of Mines, Miguel Daz, affirmed that the Ministry of Energy and Mines is committed to making transparent the income generated by mining and the use of the resources contributed by this sector to the communities that have the most impact from the extractive industry. When participating as a panelist in the videoconference "Situation and perspectives of Mining in the Dominican Republic", Daz specified that it is necessary to have modern legislation that allows updating the system, the concession and stimulating foreign investment in the sector, as well as supporting projects that help the sustainable development of the country.
The main speaker of the event was the engineer Miguel Daz, in which the president of the Round Table of the Countries of the Commonwealth in the Dominican Republic, Fernando Gonzlez Nicols, and as panelists Elizabeth Mena, president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) and Waleska Rivera, commercial attach of the Canadian embassy.
On his side, Gonzlez Nicols recommended that the government expedite the mining permits that are pending without justification, to send a message to investors that the country is once again an attractive and competitive destination for mining investment.
He described support for responsible mining as fundamental, because it is an important column of the Dominican economy and that in the provinces that traditionally develop this productive activity are the most educated, prosperous and forested, including Monsignor Nouel and La Vega.
While the president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) Elizabeth Mena, stressed that the mining activity is not only important because of the significant payments it makes to the State, but also contributes to the high-tech and well-paid employees of these mining companies, with salaries above the average in the Dominican Republic."
