There are a number of ways to value a company. One approach is to calculate the reproduction value of their net assets. In other words, what would it cost a competitor to compete effectively against this company using current prices for material and labour. For instance r&d gets expensed every year but a competitor would need to spend at least 3-5 years of this amount to be on par. When a company is trading above its reproduction value, then that difference can be explained by a competitive advantage. If a company has no competitive advantage then any company should be trading at its reproduction value of its net assets.
Gatekeeper spends a lot on r&d as well as sales and marketing and so they have a lot of intangible assets that do not appear accurately on the balance sheet. One sign that a company has some kind of competitive advantage is to look at their ttm return on equity/capital and Gatekeeper appears to be doing just fine!
