HPQ Silicon Inc V.HPQ

Alternate Symbol(s):  HPQFF

HPQ Silicon Inc. (HPQ) is a Canada-based technology company specializing in green engineering of silica and silicon-based materials. The Company is engaged in developing, with the support of technology partners PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (PyroGenesis) and Novacium SAS, new green processes to make the critical materials needed to reach net zero emissions. Its activities are centered around the three pillars: becoming a green low-cost (Capex and Opex) manufacturer of Fumed Silica using the Fumed Silica Reactor, a proprietary technology owned by HPQ being developed for HPQ by PyroGenesis; becoming a producer of silicon-based anode materials for battery applications with the assistance of Novacium SAS, and Novacium SAS is engaged in developing a low carbon, chemical base on demand and high-pressure autonomous hydrogen production system. The Company operates in a single operating segment, segment, being the sector of the transformation of quartz into silicon materials and derivative products.

The demand for silicon anodes is going to be huge

The demand for silicon anodes is going to be hugeGreat post by @cargo The demand for silicon anodes is going to be huge. I did not realize the price of silicon anodes based on the link below is going for US$60-80/kg. The price of graphite anode material is mentioned at around US$8/kg. $8 is a very low price for graphite IMO it should/will be much higher, but I will still use that as a starting point for $HPQ to reach price parity with graphite:) A EV battery with a graphite anode contains about 70kg of graphite making it bulky and heavy something the EV industry is trying to get away from. The screen shot below is a oldie but goodie. So if a battery maker decides to go with a 100% silicon anode they will need around 27kg of silicon per battery produced which will make it less bulky and weight much less (another advantage over graphite) For $HPQ to reach price parity with graphite (US$8/kg) the would have to price their silicon anode material at just under US$20/kg. That number is IMO very doable for $HPQ to achieve. When you start running the numbers based on the screen shot above (27kg of silicon per battery with a 100% silicon anode) you get some mind boggling numbers and shows the crazy potential game changing/disruptive technology can have on the industry:) https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-07-04/porsche-taycan-ev-battery-parts-maker-daejoo-sees-growing-silicon-anode-market
