Nixon took the USA off of the gold standard in 1971.
Since then we have created more debt world wide that has risen to a level which most country's will never have the means to repay.
As society clues into the truth about the fragility of the world financial system and the average person begins to understand the difference between fiat money and real money. We likely will find ourselves where the truth of our unstable banking system will eventually lead the masses to the return to precious metals for security.
Today the smart money is already fleeing to real hard assets, the middle class or at least what is left of the middle class is beginning to realize that they need to protect what little assets they have left.
Understand that the next two weeks may bring major developments as the G8 and G20 takes steps to address the Greek situation and the financial mess of the USA.
Last week my wife was in the USA on business and a couple of business types in the elevator commented to her that many USA business people saw Canadians no longer as their poor neighbours but saw them today as their rich neighbours.
That is quiet a change in attitudes. Is humility coming back to the US????
