PETER MCCULLOUGH AND CRAIG PARRY SAVE A LIFE NEAR EDSON
It was 2am when they saw it. Peter watched as a tractor trailer unit flipped over onto it’s side about a
kilometer down the road from where he and Craig were parked. Peter grabbed the first aid kit while Craig
started running. Halfway there, Craig noticed that the truck was on fire.As he arrived at the scene, Craig
called to see if the driver had made it out. The Kenworth was laying on the passenger side door; half on the
highway and half in the ditch. Craig ran into the ditch, to the roof of the truck, then climbed up onto the
driver’s side door to look for the driver. While repositioning himself, he slid off of the truck. By this time,
the flames were spewing out of the top of the hood and it was not possible to see through the windshield.
Craig climbed back onto the driver’s door and saw the driver standing and staring up at him looking very
disoriented. Craig thought about kicking in the window but the driver would not look away. He yelled at the
driver to try the door, which looked undamaged and it opened. Craig pulled the door up and held it with his leg,
while pulling the driver out and lowering him to the ground. Craig and Peter assisted him away
from the truck and by the time they were about 50m away the whole cab was engulfed in flames.
The RCMP and Ambulance arrived about ten minutes later and our guys handed the scene over to
them. Their good deed for the day done Craig and Peter went back to work.
