The pre-treatment is the key and it has been commercially proven by Repap and in Lignol's pilot plant..........and those lignin HP products have recently been sold by Lignol to commercial end-users for final evaluation.
The high purity lignin stream (HP-L™ Lignin) can be used for replacement of petrochemicals in a wide range of chemical applications as well as animal feed additives. The extracted biomass polysaccharides (cellulose and hemicellulose) are enzymatically depolymerized and fermented to produce an ethanol beer which is then distilled and dehydrated to yield fuel-grade ethanol. The hemicellulose carbohydrates can be also used for other applications such as animal and human health.
Petrochemical replacements are a key selling point , as oil is forecasted to continue to trend upward.
The results of the recent HP lignin sales should soon start trickling in.
That should be the final stage in a fully integrated business plan to move forward to commecial production.
