Horrendous place to work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I always heard bad things about New Found Gold before starting work there but I ignored them because the pay was good, but once I started it didn't take me long before I started hating the place. You can get the same pay with a better work-life balance at any other company so the pay is nothing special and it's not worth it to undergo the disrespect and poor treatment that you will receive. If you are a core logging geologist and even a technician you will be treated like you mean nothing. Not a great way to feel at work. Most of the project geologists have absolutely no previous supervisory/management experience, at most times they are very unprofessional. There is a gross amount of favoritism occurring in this company (especially from the COO) and because of this, even if you have the experience, you will never work your way up to something with more responsibility. This is not how a company should be run and it's unfortunate that something that could be so great has turned into what it now is.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

Poor, inexperienced management, favoritism

Experience at New Found Gold

New Found Gold provides a great work atmosphere. The general work expectation was that you, as a core-logger, completed all of your core by the end of the day. If by chance you finished early, you would move on to other tasks. The project geologists were a pleasure to work under. Since the day I arrived I felt welcome. I was invited to after work events like barbecues and road trips. The people there made a place far from home feel like home.

Pros

Good pay, good people, in a town with amenities, provided with a work vehicle for travelling within the area

Cons

No benefits

Poor management

Poor management team, very little personal skills and downright degrading depending on who you are dealing with. We were spoken to like we were stupid on a daily basis. I handed in my 3 weeks notice and not once was I spoken to by management or my notice (sent both through email and physical copy) even acknowledged. We felt unappreciated and ignored and I guess we were, seeing as how the owner couldn't even say "it's been nice having you" or "see ya later" in the three weeks I had left there.

Pros

Paid okay, paid lunches, paid week off at Christmas

Cons

Very little flexibility with hours, they partied A LOT so every weekend was extra busy because the Geologists were hung over
