Second year to roll out the old lower bulk hemp seed sales story”
The financial statements are usually produced on a comparative basis. In order to compare 2017 results with 2016 results, it is reasonable to mention the change in the South Korean market for Canadian hemp products and how it impacted the financial statements. A lot of articles written about hemp in Canada continue to reference the South Korean market – that’s reality! ***** HEMPCO FOOD AND FIBER INC. – Feb 28, 2018 MD &A - The Company’s exit from the South Korean market was in response to an influx of low cost but lower-quality product, which resulted in unacceptable margin compression. The exit from Korea led to the reported decrease in revenues. US revenues were affected by softness in sales to one customer and the loss of a customer by a distributor of Hempco product. Revenues came in at $0.3 million, as compared to $1.9 million for the same quarter in the prior year. Going into Q3 2018, the Company is witnessing positive momentum in sales due to the development of new initiatives that it anticipates will offset the Korean market exit. ***** THE WESTERN PRODUCER – April 19, 2018 There have been some changes in the international marketplace for conventional hemp. Canada used to sell a lot of hemp to South Korea, but China has started exporting there at a lower price, which is another reason Canadian prices are lower this year. “The consumption of hemp in South Korea has dropped, and it’s also been displaced by seed from China,” Crawford said. | |

| I thought I would do a “quick and dirty” calculation based on what little information is available about NSP actual bulk sales to South Korea for 2016 and 2017. The estimation in the table below suggests to me that while chasing rainbows and worrying about their salaries they did a pretty good job of increasing NON BULK sales from 2016 to 2017 | 2017 | | 2016 | | | | | Revenues | 1,773,327 | | 7,346,746 | | | | | Less Korean bulk sales | 0 | | 6,300,000 | | | | | Net of Korean bulk sales | 1,773,327 | | 1,046,746 | | | | | less: P0S sales | 0 | | 51,306 | less: Prosnack sales | 102,944 | | 0 | | | | | Net Natera, CHII, PawsitiveFx sales | 1,670,383 | | 995,440 | | | | | 2017 increase in Natera NON bulk sales | Estimate-> | | ~ $ 674,943 | | |
