Patent laws are not my thing. And certainly not the research required to discover something worth patenting. I have repeatedly seen small companies with highly valuable defensible patents get buried by legal abuse from much larger companies. I've also seen little pita companies ankle biting the big guys just to get a settlement. One Canadian company made their entire claim to fame around

Just posted this to verify the claim made MM... No value judgement as to necessity. The proof there is in the pudding with no sales. And  I am essentially in your position...semi retired, still servicing some long term clients, but pursuing something else....cmscanada.org....trying to turn CPAs into something more.

Enjoy your pursuit of an upgrade. The pursuit is often better than the additional parchment. Check out the csi. Canadian securities institute. They used to offer a few courses and certifications. Now they have so many I wouldn't know where to start. Thank goodness for "grandfathering" us old guys.
