Dirk - seeing as you have some time on your hands, can you give us a very brief description of how a typical 6600m hole would be drilled. Clearly we have the spud completed. I would imagine a large bore drill is then used down to a certain depth which is then pulled and casing sent down and then cemented to stabilize the sidewalls. Then a smaller bore drill goes down through the casing and is repeated to a deeper depth and so on. What about mud weights when they hit the zones of interest. How are high pressures dealt with (I imagine heavier mud). What happens after target depth reached. Is testing done during or after? And so on. Whatever you think is straight forward for us non oil investors would be appreciated.

Waitingstill, I'm basing my monitoring on Repsol Jaguar 1, very high risk, HTHP well design. Highly unconventional well design. I was at Repsol's pre-spud meeting with about 150 other people in Port of Spain, Trinidad but never worked on the well because they moved me to CGX Eagle. Everybody at the 3 day Repsol meeting was on pins and needles especially the Atwood Beacon drilling team ...more
