What is

Can anyone with the experience state what is the typical rate of drilling per day in these conditions and current depth and what to expect going forward ?

Hi dragonfly, I refrained from reacting to your Extrapolation post but now that you're openly asking the question, I will answer. There is no short, straightforward answer and this is the reason why I am cautious when I state my assumptions and we should not be thinking in terms of x meters/day because this is not how it works. Drilling is not linear. Apologies in advance for the technical ...more

yes i hope they case a lot to protect against this pressure,i heared that there was a KICK, a while back,  yes i think it was a god send that apache and total  5 ish months ago, reminded the FEC and CGX poeple  about the pressure.  please no sidewinder this time and lets see what is down there.

Repsol Jaguar anticipated 21 ppg mud weights to drill the Turonian and only had 19.6 ppg FIT at their deepest casing shoe. That's why they abandoned the well. They were considering running a continguency liner to get a stronger shoe but the mud contractor MI didn't have any hematite in Trinidad to get the mud weight up to what was necessary. They only had barite and in a 21 ppg barite ...more

Yup and maybe going for broke, Sure hope not. GLTA, and I mean all.

How could Repsol not be prepared for that? I thought they were a top notch company. Seems like if you anticipated 21 ppg, you should be to tackle that. They spent approximately $210mil on that hole. Almost put CGX into the graveyard and opened the entry point for PRE to come in and essentially taking over the company when that hole got messed up. Do you think that was poor planning? Or just ...more

Here's what Repsol said in their 35 page report on Jaguar that I've already posted about 4 times. People may want to review it because the same may happen on Kawa. They didn't expect the high pressures in the original well planning. The high pressures were encountered while drilling. Begs the question if their is a fault or some other channel for high pressures from lower formations ...more

Further to my last: What exactly did Repsol mean when they said this: "However, the recognition of the chemical compaction as a secondary mechanisms is critically importance to the pressure analysis process."Check out chemical compaction and correlate it in the context of what Dragonfly has posted. Nobody can do anybody else's thinking for them. One post asking for guidance from ...more

Further, further to my last: Dragonfly posted a seismic plot showing the cross-section of a very deep ancieny canyon now filled with sediment. Oil_Run said that the canyon may be 5 to 10 times larger than the Grand Canyon. Oil_Run added that Jennifer Budlong said that Kawa is being drilled at the mouth of that canyon where sediments are most likely to be course, clean sand which makes sense ...more

Further, further, further to my last: As I understand it, 80 to 90 million years ago the entire South American continent was rotated counter-clockwise by a few degrees located halfway across the Atlantic from where it is now.The Berbice River system used to drain most of northern South America until the South American plate run up agsinst the Nazca plate changing the flow pattern and creating the ...more

Hi Waitingstill, The problem lies at the definition of a top notch company. There are very, very few well rounded top notch companies in this Industry (a nearly exhaustive list consists of Exxon, Chevron, Total and also Shell, despite their paperpusher side. Maybe ENI. Certainly not BP, neither before Macondo nor after. And on the not-so-pivate side, the great Petrobras, despite all the ...more

Thanks OCM ..yeah I know it's not linear but at least we got a fair handle on where we're at and what the expectations can be ..Thanks again.

I've been on wells where the ROP (rate of penetration) was as low as 1 - 2 meters per hour with the bit changed every 30 to 40 hours of drilling. Usually in highly abrasive, well cemented sandstones, siltstones. By cement you geologists refer to the pore space between grains being filled with something that was once liquid and is now solid. Carbonate compounds I think..Anyway if the formations ...more
