Berdahl Seems To Like The Way B2Gold OperatesFrom today's SGD press release: “We are excited to welcome B2Gold as a growth-focused, long-term, value-driven investor,” said Scott Berdahl, CEO & Director of Snowline. “B2Gold is a major global gold producer with a strong track record of growth built on a demonstrated commitment to communities, sustainable mining and employee safety. Their interest in Snowline is a sound endorsement of the company we are building along with the quality and geological potential of our assets.”
During a portion of a rather lengthy past interview with the host of Resource Talks, Berdahl indicated he wants SGD properties in the hands of an entity that will respect the land, first nations communities in the area, the environment, and engage in responsible mine development. He seems to feel B2Gold checks these boxes, so I think the relationship will be a good one.
Though SGD could eventually be taken out by a company other than BTO, I doubt it will be Barrick as they have a track record of irresponsible resource development, which is something I don't think Berdahl will take a shine to given his past comments, specially in his home territory of the Yukon:
Barrick Gold Mines Focus of Conflct Globally
Barrick Gold under fire by UN for toxic spills from Veladero mine in Argentina
Now, of course Berdahl is going to shower compliments on BTO given their new agreement, but I don't think he would have entertained such a commitment if he did not think BTO was a good, well-run partner.
